Help Save My Life and Find a GIST Cure.

I need your help to save my life and find a cure for GIST cancer.

I need your help to save my life and find a cure for GIST cancer.

My name is Nikki Morales. I was diagnosed with inoperable stage 4 metastatic cancer in February 2017. Not just any cancer...but a rare cancer called Pediatric Wild Type Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors (GIST) in my stomach and liver. There are only 33 people currently know to be in my particular mutation type and only about 3% of all GIST patients fall into the "pediatric wildtype" category.

It is fair to say this is one of the rarest of the rare cancers. It has no known prognosis and no known treatments. As of right now, I have failed off of three chemotherapy drugs and am moving into clinical trials.

This has obvious turned my world upside down, but I continue to attempt to live my life and appreciate every day, despite 8 grueling months of chemotherapy. I have become a certifed GIST patient advocate and am working to connect others with my mutation together, as well as collecting research on their cases.

The only thing that can help me and my fellow wild type friends is funding for more research. The pediatric wild type side of GIST has been widely ignored for many years because it is so rare.

No donation is too small. Thank you, in advance, on behalf of me and my family, for your contribution to this cause.

The Day That Changed Your Destiny

On Facing Mortality

I've been writing a blog since the week I was diagnosed. It is not always easy to write and it is certainly not easy to read, but it is the best way to keep up with what's going on as I fight against GIST.

I'm collecting donations that will go to medical bills and the Life Raft Group, a non-profit organization that focuses on the survival of GIST patients through research, advocacy, patient support and education. They have been integral in helping my family seek resources in my fight.

Your donations are absolutely vital in the search for a GIST cure, but there are other ways to get involved, as well. Volunteer at any event, become a patient advocate or just spread awareness of this rare disease. Any help is appreciated.
